welcome aboard, crew. you are [shift 9]; [emergency crew]
personality version [ON]
The Tellurian date is 1/1/2525, 60 years after our launch from Tellus.
Mission parameters continue, though crew resources remain limited. Estimated time to reach nebula terminus is still approximately two standard years. Several potential candidate planets will be evaluated for settler outpost viability along the projected trajectory.
The unidentified spacecraft located on December 16th has been successfully transported to the hangar using H3.RM3-class mobile drones. The vessel is currently under strict quarantine protocols. Sterilization procedures have been completed, with no detectable signs of living organisms aboard.
Personnel entering the hangar are required to wear full UR-A9A spacesuits or TR-PSI-C0R3 masks (Extended Shield configuration). All entrants will be subjected to a mandatory 24-hour quarantine period following exposure.
Additionally, long-range scans have identified a potentially viable planet. The Mnemosyne is scheduled to make its first planetary stop later this month to conduct sample collection and preliminary analysis. Further updates will follow when we get closer to the planet.
Happy New Year, crew.
Now a message from CAP_O_Drake:
I gotta say... you guys are spoiling an old man. I haven't felt this g-good in a long while. Makes it almost bearable.
[ He coughs, but it's not as horribly wet as it usually is. ]
I heard we've found a planet to check out. A possible place for settlers. I don't know how difficult that will be with our small crew, but I can't... I can't help being excited in a way. This was the dream, after all.
Good luck.
Queries?
SCI_R_0
Safety protocol for vessel investigation confirmed. Commencing survey and investigation once all crew members are prepared. In fact - even for those who aren't going to be investigating the creepy derelict vessel they're now carrying around, Rin can be found in the vicinity, going through the whole gamut of safety checks on both the spacesuit and masks as specified by L3TH3.
[Apparently they still have time to multitask some messages, though.]
Please forward relevant viability markers on the forthcoming planet. Further request: Does the Captain want direct reports on the results of current investigations?
no subject
The captain forwards that he would like the reports as they come in.

[Included are all the files on the totally-an-octopus not a mollusc fuck you Hilbert alien, along with the analysis of the ship's external composition, and summaries therein.
... And then it gets an idea.]
Does the Captain have access to the ship's security cameras and other video feeds?
no subject
He has access to some video feeds but not the security cameras. If you wish to show the captain anything, I suggest filming it or setting up a video feed and sending it to me so I can forward it. His eyes are compromised from the infection, so I need to put it on the Bridge's main screen for him to be able to fully see.

[This will not at all result in awkward evidence later on in that exploration. Definitely not.]

Query for L3TH3 and/or engineering: how set in stone are the H3.RM3-class mobile drones with regards to location/programming/etc.? Could one be retrofitted for use by the Medical team?

I will be making sure nobody goes looking at the ship we found too close to the time of arrival. Just in case.
[For some reason he was still doing the QUERRY thing. He might just be obstinate.]
---------
[To the Captain]
We'll be sure to send you pictures from the ground. Like you said, it's the god-damned dream.
Did we ever hit any before, while we were in cryo sleep?
no subject
Thank you for your attention to duty, Mr. Massani.
[ As for the captain; ]
I can't wait. Not to be a downer, but it's the first thing I've looked forwards to other than death.
...and no. This is the first one.

----
[He grunted and nodded. Nah, he kind of easily believed those thoughts had to be there.]
Then let's see about giving you a few interesting bits to look over. From this little ship, and from a bit old planet.
Long as the plantlife doesn't do something crazy to us.

[ Cough. ]
...but I'd be grateful for a look or two at what you find.
OPEN ACTION - Ship Investigations (Thread-Jack Opens fine. CW in 1 Prompt for GOREY memory regain)
[Zaeed wasn't going to be on point for this. He was aware of it. But, as soon as he had scheduled things properly so that he wouldn't be recovering when they neared orbit on the possible planet, he would make sure he was available to serve as protection in case there were any physical threats on the initial investigation.
Investigation itself was Science, Ops and Medical's deal, but he could help with sample acquisition once the perimeter was secured. Getting suited up and making sure the shields were up and at full force with plenty of charge, he checked his weapon and nodded to his partner, stepping through the airlock and into the hanger.]
Right. Quarantine for us after this. Made sure they had a god-damned chess set so we don't go bleeding crazy. You know how to get this tug open?
Shadows of Another Life (CW: References to GORE, BODY HORROR, DEATH, HORRIBLE ALIEN BUGS, DISSOLVING PEOPLE. Mass Effect's not E for everyone, hah.)
[The doors were open. One of the rooms that they began to investigate had some sort of looming structure, and as soon as Zaeed stepped into it, looking over the shadows and maintaining the perimeter, he froze. His eyes went rigid and wide, right before he gritted his teeth and levelled his gun, head whipping around.
Lunging back, he grabbed the door and forced it closed behind them before rolling back, gun aimed at the doorway. In that moment, he could see it. He could see the god awful pod (CW all above). His voice came back as a harsh, guttural snarl.]
God-damnit, stay behind me! SECURE THE FUCKING PERIMETER!
[...there was nobody there. His gun didn't fire, but only because nothing had yet appeared.]
starting at the breach
The ship has media and entertainment storage if you need, Operative Massani.
[They move closer to the ship, settling one of the readings before approaching the vessel proper, reaching out to settle one hand against the hull.]
Initial attempts will focus on finding sensors or systems to trigger an automatic release. If this fails, we will require manual entry.
[OOC: also good with folks hopping in!]
no subject
[The air finished cycling for them, airlock opening and admitting into the hangar before it closed and cycled the air out, sterilized and recycled safe air from the rest of the ship back into the tiny space. Stepping into the main hangar, he grunted and looked over the other vessel, shaking his head.]
We don't even have a clue if it's a warship or science vessel, or some blasted merchant's barge with spoiled alien meat.
no subject
Other than that, it doesn't seem to have any other natural openings. Just those made by whatever damaged the ship in the first place - cracked plates and warped metal. ]
no subject
[In other words, they don't have high hopes.
Once they're released into the hangar, Rin steps forward, approaching the ship towards the most promising angle by the tail - the first thing they do is start tapping a fist along the edges of the panels, listening here and there for the sound of something hollow, testing a seam here and there.]
no subject
Once he had what he needed he made his way back, watching as Rin started tapping, searching for an option for entrance.]
Wonder if we'll even have a way to get a frame of reference on the damned language in this thing.
[They had alien species' laanguages to fall back on, so possibly? He had no clue.]
no subject
[All that, of course, is useless unless they can actually get inside! Rin finds what they think might be the edge of a panel, testing fingers against it, then bouncing a fist lightly off the metal for some percussive maintenance, just to test.]
