The Tellurian date is 8/10/2524, 60 years after our launch from Tellus.

Twenty years ago, 4/5/2504, the crew was infected with an unknown pathogen. While attempts to cure the infected were made, it quickly went out of control and the mortality rate was 100%. Once the entire crew was infected and there were attempts to open the doors into cryo bay, the crew had to be sanitized for the safety of the rest of the ship.

However, my program forbids me from causing harm to a captain even in this kind of emergency, so a quarantine was built until his eventual death.

20 years has passed. Captain Drake is still alive. The disease has mutated. The bridge is now in quarantine and any attempts to reach it will be met with lethal force. This is for your own safety.

Two days before your awakening, Mnemosyne was hit with a blast from an unknown outside source that not only took the main power out but has caused damage to the systems. I was forced to wake some crew for repairs, but the cryo system is one of the malfunctions. Only certain pods were opened without due process. You may feel confused and missing memories. I apologize for this inconvenience.

What is to follow is a message from CAP_O_Drake:

[ It's definitely the voice of the captain, even if it sounds both old and strained. ]

She won't turn off... the quarantine... until the last pathogen is sanitized. Don't... try to force it. The defenses will kill you.

[ His speech is slow and out-of-breath, but he sounds like he's still lucid. Still alive after 20 years of being locked in the bridge. ]

As long as I'm alive, the ship... is compromised. Yet this sickness won't take me... and... and I have lost the ability to end it myself. So my orders are... survive this. Get the engines on... and continue the mission until I am gone.

[ There's a gurgly cough and a choked-down curse of 'motherfucker'. This is the man that has trained you all for joining Mnemosyne, who has led the ship so far, and now he's struggling to breathe, apologizing for not killing himself. ]

The next captain... they'll fix this. Keep the settlers safe. Thank you.

[Ugh. So much for hoping that the AI would actually turn out to be nice and helpful. Ship: confirmed asshole. They're halfway expecting another classified marker considering they're Science, not Ops or Engineering, but:]

[Eventually they'll remember they can talk to the AI conversationally, give them a minute for the adrenaline to wear off.]

[Why does just using their name feel threatening? Aside from the implicit threat of everything L3TH3 just said, anyway.They want to sit back down, start watching their show again to relax and forget about all of this, but considering... all this? they resort to pacing, instead. It feels useless to ask - if the AI can kill, then it can probably lie, right?]

Under what parameters besides access of the bridge or attempts to access the cryo bay will lethal force be used?

I am not authorized to use lethal force on uninfected crew. My main function is to keep all crew and settlers safe. The cryo bay is open to all non-infected and will not need to be concerned about sanitation.

However, I am authorized to stop the spread of the disease by any means, so lethal force will be used in case the crew forcibly attempts to get access to the bridge.

[Uh-huh, sure, okay, is what Rin wants to say, in the most sarcastic tone they're capable of. But that feels a bit too much like antagonizing the recently-renamed Evil AI, and while their panic might be shifting over to Mad/Furious, they can at least recognize that that would be a bad idea.

They have to force themself to wait a full minute before responding, pacing all the while.]

What actions have you taken in the past twenty years aside from containment?

I have been waiting for the last step of the sanitation before a full new shift is woken and the mission can continue. Other than keeping all systems running, that has been the planned actions.

The contagion overrules all other parameters.

You have no autonomous repair functions? Drones?

[They don't remember hearing about any but also there was a lot of... not-caring going on in those early briefings, because they weren’t supposed to be responsible for that. Really though, they're mostly asking to give the AI some hint of judgement at the weird fucking priorities and letting everything just sit there for twenty years.

Not that they have a great idea what to do next since Evil AI won't give them access to its evil functions.]

The only drones we have are the ones that have been keeping the ship clean and functional. Physical repair is under the engineer parameter. I am able to correct damaged code, but not hardware.

[So much for their very sneaky attempts at getting a look at the AI's systems. They're just going to have to...

Be even sneakier. Or maybe actually help out engineering with the physical maintenance in order to get access.
