There being a server on the bridge makes as much sense as anything -- maybe it's there for redundancy, the bridge being a secure location. Maybe it's for extra security, and that server holds some confidential mission data.

But he's seen the bridge. He's seen the condition of all the electronics on the bridge, and he knows only too well what happens to electronics when they are neglected and contaminated and left to degrade. ]
